UAB House Staff Council -
The governing body of the UAB housestaff is the House Staff Council, which serves as a resident advocate, voice, and liaison throughout the Hospital, University and community, and provides resident representation as it pertains to University affairs and graduate medical education issues.
The 2009-2010 House Staff Council members for Radiology are Tatum McArthur, MD and Jeffery White, MD. Their strong qualities will benefit the organization and their dedication to resident education will benefit all residents in graduate medical education. |

Alabama Academy of Radiology -
Jeremy T. Royal, M.D. and Bhavik N. Patel, M.D. have been selected to represent the Alabama Academy of Radiology at the 2010 ACR Resident and Fellow section meeting, held in conjunction with the annual ACR meeting.
The mission of the Alabama Academy of Radiology is advancement of the science of radiology, improving radiological service to patients and the medical community, commitment to continuing education for radiologists, understanding the socioeconomic issues of radiology practice, and the establishment and maintenance of high medical and ethical standards. The AAR considers the Residents and Fellows in the various training programs around the state of Alabama to be a vital part of its organization. It provides an excellent opportunity for residents to gain additional exposure to the practice of radiology and to network with their peers around the state. Dr. Royal and Dr. Patel are excellent radiologists in training and will certainly represent UAB in a positive manner. |

Dr. Emily Norman, one of our second year radiology residents, has been selected as one of 35 candidates from across the country to participate in the Siemens-AUR Radiology Resident Academic Development (SARRAD) Program. This program provides focused mentorship, leadership, and academic development activities in order to better prepare for the transition into successful careers as leaders in academic radiology. Dr. Norman will participate in this program during the 57th Annual Meeting of the Association of University Radiologists (AUR), in Arlington, Virginia.

Congratulations to Dr. Bhavik Patel. He has recently been selected as a participant in the Introduction to Academic Radiology program cosponsored by the RSNA, the Association of University Radiologists (AUR), and the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS). The objectives of the program are to introduce residents to academic radiology in the second year of their residencies, demonstrate the importance of research in diagnostic radiology, illustrate the excitement of academic careers, and introduce residents to successful clinical radiology researchers. Dr. Patel will attend the program at the 2009 RSNA Scientific Assembly,November 29 to December 4, 2009, in Chicago, Illinois. |
